Enigma Outreach Sessions
Codes & Ciphers (1 – 2 hours, 30 – 60 students)
A workshop offering a whistlestop tour of encryption methods used throughout history, beginning with simple encryption techniques, dipping into some of the mathematics behind making ciphers more secure, and ending with a hands-on demonstration of a real, working Enigma machine. Students will try some codebreaking of their own.
The Story of Enigma (1 – 2 hours, 30 – 60 students)
A more in-depth discovery of the workings of the Enigma machine, suitable for confident mathematicians working at GCSE level or above. This session also includes a hands-on demonstration of a real, working Enigma machine.
Decoding Bletchley Park (1 – 2 hours, 30 – 250 students)
An interactive lecture-style presentation for groups interested in the history of Bletchley Park as a codebreaking centre in World War 2. This session can include a hands-on demonstration of a real, working Enigma machine.
