The Enigma Outreach programme travels to schools and other locations with a genuine, working Enigma machine. It is free for schools who are within two hours travel time of Bletchley Park and have more than 25% Pupil Premium eligibility.
What does a typical visit look like?
We are quite flexible with the structure of our visits and can fit in with your usual timetable or other arrangements. Here are some examples of visits we’ve delivered in the past:
- Example 1
A secondary school asked us to deliver the same session to five different groups throughout the day, during their normal lesson slots.
This is the most popular structure for schools. Some book an extra talk after the end of the school day (at extra cost) and invite parents to come along.
- Example 2
We delivered a 30 minute introduction to the story of Bletchley Park during morning assembly for the whole of Key Stage 2, then repeated the same workshop to all four year five classes throughout the rest of the day.
- Example 3
We delivered a two-hour activity twice, to a quarter of the year 9 cohort each time. This included a team-based codebreaking challenge with prizes for the winning team (provided by the school).
Other structures and formats can be discussed. Please let us know your requirements.
