John Brookes OBE

John Brookes has a City, management consulting and public sector background.

He was a career officer in the Royal Navy for 16 years and served throughout the world. Leaving in 1966, he then went into the City and held managerial appointments in international export banking, the money market, insurance broking and stockbroking. In 1991, he became a headhunter and for the last 10 years until his retirement in 2006, he was a founding partner in Stork & May specialising in helping senior executives with executive and non-executive appointments. Most of the clients were main board PLC directors.

Educated at Charterhouse and Royal Naval College, Dartmouth, John became a navigation specialist in the Royal Navy. He is a Founding Trustee of the National Museum of the Royal Navy, Vice Chairman of the Mary Rose Trust and an Executive Trustee of Bletchley Park.

John’s former charitable appointments include being a trustee of the National Maritime Museum and of the Sea Cadet Association, and a council member of the White Ensign Association and of the British Heart Foundation.
