Hilary is a native of Lancashire and holds a Masters in History from the University of Edinburgh. She has run her own consultancy business for the last 15 years following a distinguished career in local government in York (deputy at the Castle Museum), Exeter (director of Museums & Arts) and Bristol (director of Museums & Heritage). She has extensive experience of interpreting collections and sites, and turning organisations round, focusing them on their public and the stories they have to tell.
Hilary works with museums, heritage and arts organisations to help them stand on their own two feet, be stronger and survive into the future. She specialises in creating bespoke organisational development programmes based on coaching, mentoring and workshops.
Hilary served as a Trustee of the Museums Association, including six years as its Treasurer, and led the creation of CPD-based Fellowship and Associateship qualifications for both of which she remains an examiner.
Hilary lives in north Somerset in a house she and her husband are rescuing.
