Alan Whelan

Alan’s career has been primarily in the information technology and telecommunications sectors. He has worked for a number of large global organisations - ICL, Fujitsu, BT Plc, AT&T, Cable and Wireless Plc and Reliance Globalcom. Having worked with companies headquartered in USA, China, Japan, India, France and the United Kingdom, he has had the opportunity to live and work extensively overseas. He has also led businesses which trade with every country in the world, he can consequently offer an international perspective based on first-hand experience.

His experience was gained in sales and marketing disciplines and progressed through sales leadership to general management positions. He has substantial expertise in developing partnerships, alliances and collaborative ventures, and was instrumental in creating Concert, a 50/50 joint venture between BT Plc and AT&T, and at that time the largest joint venture business ever.

He has led a number of businesses with turnovers in the £ billions. He has served some smaller businesses in both executive and non-executive board positions, including as an executive director and major shareholder of a private equity backed logistics business, and as the chair of a fast moving consumer technology business in China. He has also served as an executive committee member of a FTSE 100 company.

Alan has a degree in psychology, an INSEAD diploma in international management, and a master’s degree in management from McGill University, Montreal. He is married with three children.
