The Loebner Prize

The Loebner Prize is an international competition based on the famous Turing Test. Each year chatbots are tested against humans in conversation, and four expert judges try to spot difference.

So far no chatbot has ever fooled the judges that they’re in conversation with a real human being. The software becomes ever more sophisticated and, with it, the challenge gets tougher each year.

The judges sit completely separated from the humans and chatbots, to ensure a clean competition. Concentration is fierce as they put themselves through this modern-day manifestation of the Turing test.

Who knows, maybe this year will be when software gets the better of a human brain.

This event is run by The Loebner Trust and The Society for the Study of Artificial Intelligence and the Simulation of Behaviour (AISB) with Bletchley Park hosting the event.
