Bletchley Park Christmas Cards

£2.49
The beautiful photos were passed to BP recently by a lady who lives in Cheltenham. She says 'My mother joined BP in 1938 as an Italian linguist. She'd learnt Italian before the war, staying with her uncle's family who had a business in Leghorn. In fact the same uncle also worked at BP, and he got her the job there. Quite a change from her previous job, as a receptionist at the Great Eastern hotel near Liverpool Street. After he died, his photo albums came down to my mother to sort out, and she kept the Bletchley pictures, which is how I now have them. I think they're wonderful - they really do conjure up something of the spirit of the place, where people made their own entertainment. There aren't many offices these days where you'd have an accordionist serenading colleagues as they skate round a frozen lake. Clearly it wasn't all hard work in the huts, though I think the pictures probably date from the time of the phoney war, when perhaps people weren't so busy.' 6 Different Designs and 6 Envelopes.
