London 2010: Festival of Stamps, 29th & 30th August The Post Office at War event at Bletchley Park on 29th & 30th August, will celebrate the role of the Post Office during World War Two and the importance of stamps in our history. The event forms part of the London 2010: Festival of Stamps, co-ordinated by the British Postal Museum & Archive (BPMA), a year-long festival of exhibitions and events that celebrate stamps, their design and postal heritage. On display will be a vast collection of historic stamps, representing all aspects of life. There will be a rare opportunity to view part of the Royal Philatelic Collection, kindly loaned with the permission of her Majesty the Queen, via The Keeper of the Royal Philatelic Collection and the BPMA will be displaying general material about the Post Office during World War Two. A series of talks over the bank holiday weekend will include a history of the Post Office and the importance of its connection with Bletchley Park. The Enigma Cinema will be showing archive films from the BPMA about the history of the Post Office. Children's activities will include learning what it was like to write home as a wartime evacuee and re-enactors will show how people lived during the war. There will also be a rare opportunity to see a stunning display of World War Two airpower with a Battle of Britain Memorial Flight flypast* featuring a Hurricane and a Spitfire. - ENDS - |
