Death of Bletchley Park Supporter and MK Business PioneerReleased : May 13, 2008 Simon Greenish, Director of Bletchley Park Trust, paid tribute to Melvyn Worman of New City Heating, following his death on Monday 12th May. “It was with great sadness that I today learned of the death of Melvyn Worman; one of Bletchley’s great unsung local heroes.
Melvyn was a tireless supporter of the work of the Bletchley Park Trust and contributed significantly to Bletchley Park becoming the vibrant tourist attraction and community focal point it is today.
Amongst numerous other charitable acts, year on year he generously sponsored our Annual Blitznight fireworks event, attended last year by around 5,000 members of the local community. Melvyn was 2 years ago presented with ‘Freedom of Bletchley Park’ in recognition of his enduring support of the museum over the years; an honour usually only bestowed on our wartime codebreakers.
Melvyn’s death signifies a considerable loss for the people of Bletchley, not least for his great generosity, his deep concern for the preservation of our heritage and for his wonderfully unique personality. Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to June and the family.”
Melvyn's funeral will be held at Bletchley Park on Wednesday 28th May 2008. Enquiries to H.W Mason & Sons Funeral Directors on 01908 611112. |
