Diplomatic WirelessThe exhibition displays equipment, photographs and documents from the Foreign Office intelligence organization in WWII, including the military Y Service that fed Bletchley Park with intercepted Axis messages. Also on display are original working equipment and information about the special communications radio stations in North Buckinghamshire used during the War to contact agents on secret missions in Nazi occupied Europe. Learn about how transmitters were hidden from the enemy and how they prevented their own signals from being intercepted. There is a wealth of operational equipment used during the Cold War by MI6 agents and the Foreign Office, whose use can be demonstrated to your pupils. Find out about the post-war system of world-wide communications used between London and British Embassies in overseas countries. Also covered is how secret messages were encrypted, from WWII through to the Cold War years. This is real James Bond stuff. Not available on Tuesdays.
