'Churchill's tennis courts'

Bletchley Park Tennis Courts

Opposite the wooden huts are two tennis courts, built on the site of what was Sir Herbert Leon's maze. On visiting the Park, Churchill noted with concern the lack of recreational facilities and decided that hard tennis courts should be built. Today, Bletchley Park still boasts the only tennis courts in Britain restored at Prime Ministerial command!

Recent evidence however suggests that this may have been an apocryphal tale as the tennis courts may have been commissioned before Churchill could have ordered them.

Other leisure pastimes included dancing, drama, musical and choral societies as well as bridge, chess and fencing.
