Iris BurrellOver the teleprinter one day from Chicksands Priory (Out station) we were invited to a dance. We went by train, but when the dance finished late at night we were unable to get back to Bletchley Park. At the dance an Army Sgt came to the rescue and managed to get a WAAF officers car from a garage ( the officer was on leave) then went round all the army trucks to get enough petrol to get us back to Bletchley park. There were several of us packed in this car, but we made it back to Bletchley Park, two of the girls came back on the dispatch riders motor bikes that were going to Bletchley park anyway, What a night! The following morning we were all on the “mat” so to speak, for a good ticking off. |
